After much reading on the arts and craft of Orang Asli, I began to take interest in the work of the Mah Meri people, specifically their masks and statues. It shows how the Malays are very good with woodwork and their craftsmanship. The ancient imagination of facial and bodily expressions are represented in the mask and statue. This work is inspired by the 18 ethnic groups of Orang Asli that are officially recognised by the Malaysian Government. All the mask paintings here are a form of imagination and an expression of the face, like what the Mah Meri people have been doing for centuries.
