This artwork is a silent video collage that combines video materials that I have been shooting like a diary. Two kinds of images are combined on one screen: a large outbreak of insects that grow from a swamp on the outskirts of Ottawa, and two women dancing on a ferry to the Goto Islands in Nagasaki. The former image is reduced to the primary color of light that is reminiscent of a video color bar. The color changes from blue to yellow so slowly that the change is almost unrecognizable, and insects fly around in it restlessly. The latter, on the other hand, steadily continues dance lessons with a human rhythm, with the marine radar rotating mechanically. The theme of this artwork is to pictorially reconstruct the fundamental elements such as light and color, and time and its transformation in the video images.
