Yayoi Kusama "LOVE FOREVER": Yayoi Kusama

介绍

For our second exhibition at Gillman Barracks, Ota Fine Arts is delighted to present Yayoi Kusama's "Love Forever" series for the first time in Singapore.

The artist has worked on these black and white marker drawings from 2004 to 2007, and has completed 50 pieces in total. This November, we will exhibit an environmental spread of 25 works, each of which are limited edition silkscreens on canvas. The artist draws with deft improvisation, freely alternating between abstraction and figuration, and vigorously but also delicately repeating her iconic motifs: an eye, a woman's profile, and always the polka dot. We are honoured to provide this opportunity for you to muse on the obsessive, abundant images that emanate from this unique artist.

Well known for her use of dense patterns of polka dots and nets, as well as her intense, large-scale environments, Yayoi Kusama works in a variety of media, including painting, drawing, sculpture, film, performance, and immersive installation. Born in Japan in 1929, Kusama came to the United States in 1957 and quickly found herself at the epicenter of the New York avant-garde. After achieving fame through groundbreaking exhibitions and happenings, she returned to her native country in1973 and is now one of Japan's most prominent contemporary artists.

The largest retrospective dedicated to Kusama toured the Reina Sofia, Madrid (2011), Centre Pompidou, Paris (2011), Tate Modern, London (2012) and opened at the Whitney Museum, New York on 12 July 2012. At the same time her Louis Vuitton line was unveiled and designed in collaboration with creative director Marc Jacobs.
